Culture medium: MEM (Eagle) with Earle«s BSS, sodium bicarbonate, 2mM L-glutamine, 1.0 mM sodium pyruvate, 0,1 mM non-essential amino acids + 10% FBS
Karyotype: Hypodiploidy to pseudodiploidy. Abnormalities including double minutes. breaks; large submetacentric, telocentric and small telocentric markers (originator). (P32) Hypodiploid to hyperdiploid and triploid to hypotetraploid with abnormalities including dicentrics, breaks, double minutes (DM), large subtelocentric and small telocentric chromosomes.

Comments: This is one of two cell lines (see ATCC HTB-11) of neurogenic origin derived by J. L. Biedler. SK-N-MC was isolated in September of 1971 and was found to have moderate dopamine Š beta Š hydroxylase acivity as well as formaldehyde induced fluorescence indicative of intracellular catecholamines.
