Cell line: FBHE

Cell Description: Bos taurus (bovine), normal; heart; endothelium; endothelial
Age/Stage: fetus
Morphology: fibroblast
Fluid Renewal: Twice per week
Sub Culturing: Remove medium, add fresh 0.25% trypsin, 0.02M EDTA solution for several minutes, remove trypsin and let the culture sit at 37°C for 10 to 20 minutes. Add fresh medium, aspirate and dispense into new flasks.
Subculture every 5 to 7 days.
Split Ratio: A subcultivation ratio of 1:2 to 1:5 is recommended
Growth Properties: adherent
Propagation: Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium, 90%; bovine calf serum, 10%; 100 to 200 ng/ml fibroblast growth factor
Biosafety Level: 1

Comments: The FBHE cell line absolutely requires fibroblast growth factor (FGF) for survival. Add 100 to 200 ng/ml of FGF to the culture medium of each flask every other day. The cells are capable of 40 to 45 population doublings after thawing. The line is positive for bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVD).
