Cell name: EL4.IL-2

Cell description: Mus musculus (mouse), lymphoma, thymus
Strain: C57BL/6
Morphology: lymphoblast
Depositors: J.J. Farrar Products: interleukin-2 (interleukin 2, IL-2)
Fluid Renewal: every 2 to 3 days
Sub Culturing: Cultures can be maintained by addition or replacement of fresh medium. Start cultures at 2 x 100,000 cells/ml and maintain between 1 x 100.000 and 1 x 1,000.000 cells/ml.
Growth Properties: suspension
Propagation: Medium: Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium with 4.5 g/L glucose,90%; horse serum, 10%

Comments: This is a subline of EL4 (ATCC TIB-39) that produces IL-2 in response to phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate (PMA). The line is capable of producing 2500 units/ml of IL-2 after 24 hours in culture with PMA. Tested and found negative for ectromelia virus (mousepox).
