Cell Description:                 Didelphis marsupialis virginiana (opossum), normal; kidney , cortex; proximal tubule; epithelial

 

Culture Medium:                 MEM (Eagle) with Earle's BSS, 90%; bovine serum 10% 

Subculturing:                       Remove medium, add fresh 0.025% trypsin, 0.03% EDTA solution for 2 minutes, rinse and remove. Incubate the flask at 37¡C until the cells detach (approximately 5 minutes). Add fresh medium, aspirate and dispense into new flasks.

Split Ratio:                            A split ratio of 1:4 to 1:8 is recommended

Fluid Renewal:                    2 to 3 times weekly

Growth Properties:             monolayer

Morphology:                         epithelial

Sterility:                                 Tests for mycoplasma, bacteria and fungi were negative

Tumorigenic:                                   no

Receptors Expressed:       alpha2-adrenergic; serotonin; parathyroid hormone; atrial natriuretic factor

Comments:                          Established from a femal adult opossum.
